Lichfield Friary Serve Up Ace Season
Lichfield Friary Lawn Tennis Club has had an ace summer after its top men’s teams won three division titles across two leagues, remaining undefeated throughout the season.
The three championship-winning teams were:
- Men’s A – Staffordshire Inter-Club League Premier Two Division
- Men’s A – Burton League Division 1
- Men’s B – Burton League Division 2
The teams produced consistently strong performances throughout the season, finishing at the top of their respective divisions with matches to spare.
The results mean than the Staffordshire Men’s A team will compete in the Premier One division in 2028. The promotion of the Burton League Men’s B team means that there will be two Lichfield Friary teams in the first division.
Club Chair, Katarina Obranovic O’Dell said: “We are incredibly proud of what the teams have achieved this season. Winning three divisions across two leagues is a fantastic result and is a real reward for the commitment and effort everyone has put in throughout the season.
“There were many highlights throughout the season. There were tightly contested matches again local rivals and each team remained undefeated. But for me, the highlight that bought me the most joy was seeing the teams field a mix of established and junior players. These teenagers have been at the club for years, progressing up the junior ranks, developing their skills, and have now deservedly found themselves competing at the top local league level.
“I’d also like to thank our team captains; Richard, Gary and Tom for their hard work, not just in picking winning squads but all the administration including organising floodlight tokens, match balls and submitting results.”
Based on the Tamworth Road in the city, Lichfield Friary Lawn Tennis Club has six floodlit courts, multiple men’s, ladies and mixed teams, and a thriving social scene.
There various types of membership available and there are opportunities to play socially, in internal club events and inter-club leagues. There are cardio sessions.
Adults and junior coaching are available throughout the week plus individual lessons. It also has a growing pickleball community. Visit www.lichfieldfriarytennis.co.uk.
